The purpose of cold treatment is to minimize residual austenite in hardened steel.
After quenching and cooling the workpiece to room temperature, it is immediately placed in the environment below room temperature for a certain time, and taken out at room temperature. This treatment below room temperature is called cold treatment process. Cold treatment of bearing steel is usually done by chillers and dry ice alcohol solution. Low temperature cold treatment is a process to improve the performance of metal workpiece in materials science. This residual austenite is an unstable structure. In the process of storage and use of bearings, it will constantly change, thus changing the accuracy of bearings. For this purpose, the cold treatment process can reduce the residual austenite in the tissue and slightly increase the hardness of the parts.
